About the practice

Built in 2014, around a simple promise

Riverside Dental Studio began as a tired basement surgery on Argyle Street. Dr Eleanor Whitcombe bought it in 2014 after eight years in mixed practice across Somerset, closed it for a year, and rebuilt it into the sort of place she would happily send her own family.

Georgian bath stone townhouse exterior of the practice

Our story

The building is Georgian, a few doors from Laura Place and a minute from Pulteney Bridge. Underneath the bath stone we put in three bright surgeries, a digital scanner that replaced the awful impression trays, and a waiting room that smells of coffee rather than clove oil. It took a year and considerably more money than planned.

What has not changed since the doors reopened is how we work. We do not sell treatment plans, we do not run monthly offers, and we do not tell anyone they need something they do not. Around a third of our patients arrive nervous, often after years away from dentistry, and that is exactly the group the practice was designed for.

Today three clinicians and four support staff care for just over four thousand patients across Bath, Bathwick, Widcombe and the villages beyond. We are inspected by the Care Quality Commission, every clinician is registered with the General Dental Council, and we hold emergency slots free every weekday morning for whoever needs them most.

Our ethos

Four things we will never compromise on

  • 01

    Nobody is rushed

Our appointments are longer than the average practice on purpose. Time is what turns a frightening appointment into an ordinary one.

  • 02

    Nobody is judged

If it has been ten years since your last visit, we are simply glad you came. You will not hear a lecture about it from anyone here.

  • 03

Nobody is surprised by a bill

Every plan is written down with fixed costs before treatment starts, and we will always tell you when the honest answer is to do nothing yet.

  • 04

    Prevention beats repair

We would rather see you twice a year for hygiene than once for a crown. Our recall intervals are set by your risk, not by a calendar.

If that sounds like the kind of dentistry you have been looking for, we would love to meet you.
